Not every question here has one answer.

The exam guide describes the form as multiple-choice or multiple-selection items, so some questions ask you to select every correct option and a near miss scores the same as a blank. 45 questions in 90 minutes across six domains, rewritten on 18 March 2026, against a pass mark Databricks doesn't publish.

  • Written to the guide version live since 18 March 2026, not the April 2025 outline it replaced
  • Select-all items practised as select-all, because partial knowledge scores nothing on them
  • Weighted to the official split — 30% application development, 22% deployment, 8% governance

A RAG application answers questions about contracts. Users complain that answers cite the right clause but miss the definition the clause depends on, which appears in a definitions section earlier in the document. What is the most direct fix?

Select one.

The clause retrieves; it is missing the definition it depends on. Prepending that context at index time is the structural fix. Retrieving more chunks, changing the embedding model, or lowering the threshold all leave the chunk itself incomplete.

One choice only. Your earliest pick was dropped.

Where this question sits in the exam

Data Preparation is 14% of the Generative AI Engineer Associate exam. Our mocks use the same mix.

How it's scored

The pass mark isn't just unpublished. It moves.

Databricks sets passing scores statistically and revises them as questions change. That's their stated reason for not printing one — so the figure you've seen quoted didn't come from them.

A readiness read still needs a line, so we use 80% weighted accuracy. It's ours, not theirs, and it's drawn that way: dashed where a published pass mark would be solid.

We set it high on purpose. Being too strict costs you a week of practice. Being too lenient costs you USD 200.

Recertifying here means the full current exam

The credential lasts two years. Databricks publishes a shorter renewal exam for the Data Engineer Associate only. Recertifying here means sitting whatever version of the full exam is live then.

On a platform shipping this fast the guide will have moved. Features that did not exist when you certified are on the form, and topics you revised for may be gone.

Question types

Two formats, and one of them punishes partial knowledge

Multiple choice

One correct answer among four. The bulk of the form.

Multiple selection

Select every correct option. The exam guide describes the items as multiple-choice or multiple-selection, and on a select-all item the option you're unsure about decides the whole mark — three right and one missed scores the same as guessing.

Several designs that all ship

Governance and architecture stems offer options that would all run. What separates them is usually whether the control stops data reaching the model or merely asks the model not to use it.

A RAG application answers questions about contracts. Users complain that answers cite the right clause but miss the definition the clause depends on, which appears in a definitions section earlier in the document.

What is the most direct fix?

Increase the number of chunks retrieved per query
Chunk with the definitions section prepended to each clause chunk, so the retrieved chunk carries its own context
Switch to an embedding model with a larger context window
Lower the similarity threshold so more chunks qualify

The clause chunk retrieves correctly; it just does not contain what it needs to be understood. Carrying the relevant context into the chunk at indexing time fixes the cause rather than hoping the definition happens to rank. Domain: Data Preparation.

What you get back

No official line. So we show you ours.

Your readiness is a range, because it's an inference from the questions you've answered rather than a result you've earned. For a certification the outcome is binary, so the question is whether the whole range sits above the line.

The difference here is whose line it is. AWS publishes 720 and we measure you against their number. Databricks publishes nothing, so we measure you against ours — 80% weighted accuracy, set high on purpose, drawn dashed and labelled everywhere it appears.

Governance is 8% — about four questions. Application Development is 30%, near fourteen. The same accuracy gap in those two is not the same problem.

When the range stops narrowing and stops rising, more drilling isn't buying you anything, and that's worth knowing before you book.

If the real pass mark is below ours, the worst case is that you sat more practice than you needed. We'd rather make that mistake than the other one.

Where you stand

Borderline

70–90

assumed 80% — ours, not Databricks'

Your range crosses our assumed line. On today's evidence it's a coin flip, and we'll say so.

Three states

Try the three states. We won't show you a percentage chance of passing — nobody can calculate one honestly without years of real outcomes to calibrate against.

What we don't do

We won't show you a percentage chance of passing. Nobody can calculate one honestly without years of real outcomes behind it.

What it actually tests

Building and shipping the app is more than half the exam

Application Development at 30% and Assembling and Deploying at 22% are 52% between them. Design, data preparation, evaluation and governance share the rest. If you have built a RAG application end to end, most of this form is familiar; if you have only designed one, half of it isn't.
